The good news is that I was able to help Josef, like many other patients, get back to his life without surgery, through diet modification, vitamin supplements, and a treatment called chelation. The bad news is that too many Americans don't realize they have options other than surgery and medication when they have heart trouble, or that they can actually prevent heart disease through these same options.
We've all heard the statistics: heart disease is the "number one killer" in the United States. In 1996, sixty million Americans had some form of heart disease —more than one in four. |

First, juices supply abundant flavonoid antioxidants like vitamin C and beta-carotene; second, they are full of live enzymes. Juices can be made from fresh (organic, if at all possible) vegetables, fruits, and herbs, and should be drunk immediately after juicing. However, if you cannot drink all of your juice just after it is made, fresh juices can be kept in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator for twenty-four hours.
Still, I highly recommend that you take your juice straight from the juicer directly to your mouth. |

Her blood tests reflected anemia and low iron and vitamin B12 levels.
My prescription came as a surprise to her: small quantities of meat, preferably red meat, every day, in addition to the basically healthy diet she already maintained.
Lynn complied and watched her symptoms reverse themselves within a matter of weeks. Lynn admits that she felt guilty at first, when her vegetarian friends saw her putting organic ground beef in her shopping cart at the health food store. Like many Americans, she still worried about cholesterol and fat. |
It's part of vitamin B-complex, but for nail enhancement it's given in much higher doses. A recent study by Hoffman LaRoche indicated that 3 milligrams per day of biotin, which is quite high in relation to most people's usual dietary intake, could enhance nail growth and reverse symptoms of thinning, cracking, brittle nails. Biotin is the closest thing to a quick fix for nails.

A sugar-free, yeast-free diet and oral antifungal medication, along with generous supplements of vitamin B6, flaxseed oil, and zinc, produced total remission in 3 months.
I've given these examples of specific problems to illustrate the power of natural approaches to skin problems, especially when conventional approaches fall short of total cure or create unwanted side effects. The interesting thing is that people who don't have skin problems but want to maintain their skin at its best into middle age and beyond can apply many of these same principles. |

Concerns That Alter Types of Foods and How You Eat
Digestive Problems: If you have any of the following digestive difficulties—hietal hernia, ulcers, diverticulitis, irritable colon—it is important to eat small meals and eat more often. If you have flareups of your symptoms, contact your physician.
Hypoglycemia: If your blood sugar drops after a meal, do not eat sugary foods or refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, pasta, pizza dough, fruit juice, or sweets. |

I told each vitamin, as it slid down my throat, to go to the right places and do the right things, because they were the only cancer pills I had.
My body said, "Move, Lois, and do it fast!" Thirty minutes after I came home from the hospital I went for a walk. It was hard. I was afraid of falling on my side. I was humped like an old lady. But my legs were strong. I bought a pedometer and walked off miles and miles. When spring came, I walked, ran, walked, and ran, until there was too much baby.
I told my body through exercise that I loved it and wanted it to be healthy. |

Organochlorines And Breast Cancer
To the hazards which clearly contribute towards breast cancer, hormones (estrogen), high- fat diet, abortion and family history there is one more problem. That is organochlorines.
There are more than 10,000 different organochlorines, including chlordane, DDT, dioxin, vinyl chloride, atrazine, and CFCs. Studies routinely show that women with breast cancer have high tissue levels of organochlorines . |

When cooking vegetables, use as little water as possible to conserve the enzyme content as well as the vitamin content. Cook vegetables only until tender, in a tightly covered pot. Do not soak most fresh foods; the water can destroy enzymes.
The enzyme that begins the entire digestive process is found in the saliva. Proper chewing is necessary to make that enzyme best perform its work. Food that is not chewed well enters the digestive canal only partially prepared; digestion is therefore less nutritious.
Mental strain or worry also has a deleterious effect on enzyme actions. |

Note: The whole plant extract (rather than one constituent in particular) is considered medicinally active. The flavonoid agnuside is often used as a reference constituent as a measure of authenticity.3 Ketosteroids, with a structure similar to sex hormones, have been isolated from the leaves and flowers. The clinical relevance of this is unknown since these plant parts are rarely used medicinally. |
C, unidentified large molecular weight molecule.
EFFECTS ON URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS
Many early trials of the effectiveness of cranberry for the prevention and/or treatment or urinary tract infections involved small numbers of participants and were not blinded or controlled.3'6 Similar criticism may be made of relatively recent clinical trials that have suggested that cranberry juice may be useful for the prevention and/or treatment of urinary tract infections.7 |

Riboflavin is a factor in the vitamin B complex and is used in emollients. Every plant and animal cell contains a minute amount. Good sources are milk, eggs, and organ meats. It is necessary for healthy skin and respiration, protects the eyes from sensitivity to light, and is used for building and maintaining human body tissues. A deficiency leads to lesions at the corner of the mouth and to changes in the cornea.
RIBONUCLEIC ACID • RNA. A material found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell, it contains directions for the genetic code of the cell, DNA. |
TRETINOIN • vitamin A Retinoic Acid. Retin-A. A prescription cream, gel, or solution introduced in 1973 to treat severe acne and fine wrinkles from sundamaged skin. Clinically, according to researchers at Emory University Medical School, Atlanta, Georgia, patients experience decreased wrinkling, improved texture, and pinkening of sallow skin. However, the changes induced by topical tretinoin extend beyond a cosmetic. Microscopic, ultrastructural, and biochemical alterations, the researchers say, indicate that topical tretinoin is a significant medical therapy and requires medical supervision. |
A preservative and antioxidant used in cosmetic creams, particularly bleach and lemon creams. vitamin C is necessary for normal teeth, bones, and blood vessels. The white or slightly yellow powder darkens upon exposure to air. Reasonably stable when it remains dry in air, but deteriorates rapidly when exposed to air while in solution. Nontoxic. ASCORBYL PALMITATE • A salt of ascorbic acid (see), it is used as a preservative and antioxidant in cosmetic creams and lotions to prevent rancidity. Nontoxic. ASCORBYL STEARATE • See Ascorbyl Palmitate. |

The dosage is 1-3 tablespoons (1 tablespoon equals 4-5 g) of the powder per day, mixed in juice or water, and buffered vitamin C may be added. Since it is a good source of fiber and exerts vigorous activity on intestinal flora, the "friendly" bacteria Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus may be mixed with larch arabinogalactan powder. In one study, these probiotic substances together caused an increase in B cells. For children, the dose of larch arabinogalactan is 1 teaspoon in juice, given in divided dosages 2-3 times per day.

Herbalists use it for the treatment of hepatitis, jaundice, cancer, psoriasis, eczema, corns, and warts. Used for more than two thousand years to soothe the eyes, it also reputedly detoxifies the liver, and relieves muscle spasms and bronchospasms. It is used to treat gallbladder problems. The plant can cause a miscarriage when ingested and therefore should not be used during pregnancy. |

However, one vitamin, folic acid, and a trace mineral, germanium, that I have not discussed, are worth mentioning here for their immune-enhancing properties.
Folic Acid: Folic acid, or folate, is necessary for DNA synthesis. It keeps homocysteine levels within normal range, and is used to make
SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine). The RDA for folic acid is 200 meg daily and 800 meg daily during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects in the developing fetus. |

Brazzach then discovered that if he added vitamin D3 from shark cartilage, this greatly increased the effectiveness of the algae to heal osteoporotic bone.
The next step was to add Zedoary to the product. This is a powerful antiinflammatory plant. This increased the effect of the product. Lastly, they added panax ginseng to the product. The reasoning behind this last addition was that hormone therapy is beneficial to osteoporosis and this compound has a hormone- like chemical structure. |

One study claims a vitamin is good for us, while another says it causes cancer. The FDA now states that it may be dangerous to eat store-bought chicken and meat containing antibiotics, since antibiotic-resistant bacteria may emerge as a result. Now supermarkets have introduced genetically engineered foods without truly knowing what problems these foods may cause.
And, not surprisingly, many of us have lost trust in allopathic medicine to cure ills.
However, I do not wish to focus on the problems. I want us to learn to use our energy to create beauty and healing in our lives and on the planet. |

The USDA report also pointed out that long-term subclinical deficiency of vitamin C would fail to produce the overt recognizable symptoms of scurvy possibly leading to an infectious condition harder to treat: "What may be more serious, the blood system may be weakened to the point where it can no longer resist or fight infections not so easily cured as scurvy."
This USDA report in 1939 would seem to trumpet in an epoch of unparalleled opportunities and insights into the biochemical nature of health and, that bane of human existence, infectious disease. |

The riddle was revived when the prisoners were repatriated and treated with high-calorie, nutritious diets, generously supplemented with vitamin concentrates. In the first week or two, the shift toward the feminine became more pronounced, and then slowly disappeared. From the vantage point of hindsight, the riddle is easily solved. The malnourished liver often requires months of proper nutrition before it fully responds. An improved diet, though, will promptly stimulate hormone production. |
