Secrets of soil nutrition: Why the minerals in soil determine the success or failure of foods, health and civilization

This is why floods, tsunamis and even volcanoes are very good for humans in the long-term, because they recycle the soil and deposit more minerals and new nutrients onto lands that can be used for farming. Following the late 2004 tsunami in Thailand, the soils there produced outstanding crop yields because ocean water had been deposited onto the land. Ocean water contains all the minerals we need, and those minerals helped create an abundance of crops in the following season.

It is able to transport minerals such as calcium though the cell membrane and directly to the mitochondria. PARA-AMINOBENZOIC ACID (PABA) Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA) is sometimes referred to as a B vitamin. It is not a vitamin and is not essential for nutrition. It is a non-protein amino acid. PABA is found in many sunscreen lotions. VITAMIN B15 Vitamin B15 has not been established as necessary for human nutrition and is not a vitamin. In the form of dimethylglycine it may enhance oxygen transport to the mitochondria. VITAMIN B17 Vitamin B,7 (amygdalin) is not a vitamin.

Spirulina: trace minerals content, consumer tastes, and green foods

Spirulina is excellent at absorbing and really naturally chelating these minerals into a bioavailable form. Mike: So, what we typically call an organic form of trace minerals, I think it's important for people to understand the difference, because if someone is just drinking trace minerals from seawater, that's a very different molecular form than what's found in the spirulina, correct? Gerry: That's correct. It's usually associated or chelated with some other compounds that make it much more bioavailable to the body.

Less often than vitamins or minerals. 2. The body loses the most amount of water through: (a) The lungs. (b) Skin diffusion. (c) The feces. (d) The kidneys. 3. The kidneys retain more water: (a) When blood pressure drops. (b) In response to antidiuretic hormone. (c) In response to aldosterone hormone. (d) All of the above. 4. Which food type has the most water? (a) Broccoli. (b) Bread. (c) Cheese. (d) Crackers. 5. Which is NOT an electrolyte mineral? (a) Potassium. (b) Iron. (c) Sodium. (d) Chloride. 6. Which fluid comprises about 40 percent of weight?
Vitamin K is needed to bind minerals to bones. Vitamin K is used as a coenzyme to enable bone mineralization. Several studies have found a correlation between higher vitamin K levels and lowered risk of hip fracture. If the amount of potassium-rich fruits and vegetables eaten is not sufficient to produce enough alkalinity to buffer blood acids, the body has the ability to remove calcium from bones. This calcium helps neutralize the blood, but leaves the bones depleted in calcium. This increases the risk of osteoporosis. Excess dietary sodium can impact calcium levels in the body.
Collagen provides the organic matrix upon which bone minerals crystallize. Collagen glues cut skin together by forming a scar. This is why surgeons will often recommend higher levels of vitamin C supplementation after surgery to support increased collagen production. The collagen protein is invaluable in artery and capillary walls to provide the strength and flexibility needed to resist cardiovascular disease. HOW COLLAGEN IS MADE It is a major manufacturing effort for our bodies to produce collagen.
Sodium and chloride losses are the most common because they are the minerals in the highest concentration in extracellular fluids. Oral rehydration therapy is often administered when severe diarrhea threatens the health of malnourished children. Oral rehydration therapy is one cup of pure water with a teaspoon of sugar and a little salt. A zinc supplement added to oral rehydration therapy aids the therapy. This therapy can be helpful until the child is rehydrated and strong enough to recover with normal water and food.

Since soils today are so over-farmed and depleted of all but a few basic minerals, most of our produce lacks the minerals they should contain. For example, a lot of plants absorb selenium when selenium is present in the soil. But when selenium is not present in the soil, of course it's not available to the plant. The plant gets grown and taken to the store and sold and consumed anyway, even though it doesn't have the levels of selenium that it should contain according to traditional textbooks.
Interestingly, tomatoes can be grown to look very good cosmetically, even though they lack selenium and all the minerals that should be present. It really only takes three minerals to grow tomatoes or other vegetables. Of course, those vegetables will be nutritionally deficient, which means they won't be as healthy as they could be. They won't be as resistant to disease and pests, and they won't taste nearly as good either. So if you are eating tomatoes or produce grown in nutritionally depleted soils, then you are consuming inferior produce, and that's what's available in stores today.

Vitamin K is needed to enable osteocalcin to bind minerals to bones, as diagrammed in Figure 6-2. Vitamin K is used as a coenzyme to convert three glutamic acid residues in osteocalcin that enable bone mineralization. Higher vitamin K levels may be protective against osteoporosis and age-related fracture. Several studies have found a correlation between higher vitamin K levels and lowered risk of hip fracture.

So getting these minerals in their full-spectrum natural ratios (ratios which they're found in nature) is very important. It's also important to consider the density of these nutrients. If I were to ask you to eat 10 fresh tomatoes at one serving, you probably wouldn't be able to get through more than five or six without feeling full. That's because tomatoes have a lot of water, and they fill you up quickly. So you wouldn't be able to get much nutrition from those tomatoes if you ate them raw.

This is a combination that includes alfalfa, Atlantic kelp, kale, spinach, spirulina, bladderwrack, dulse, barley grass, chlorella, dunaliella, and wheatgrass, plus the enzymes maltase, amylase, protease, lipase, cellulase, and pectinase, to provide a green food concentrate rich in beta-carotene, chlorophyll, and trace minerals. • Bone Maximizer from Metabolic Response Modifiers. This is a combination supplement that contains micro-crystalline hydroxyapatite concentrate (MCHC). MCHC is a source of bone proteins and highly absorbable calcium.
Yeast is rich in many basic nutrients, such as the B vitamins (except for vitamin B12), sixteen amino acids, and at least fourteen different minerals. The protein content of yeast is responsible for 52 percent of its weight. Yeast is also high in phosphorus. There are various media on which yeast may be grown. Brewer's yeast, also known as nutritional yeast, is grown on hops, a bitter herb that is also used as an ingredient in beer. Torula yeast is grown on blackstrap molasses or wood pulp.
As water passes through the earth or over the rocks in a stream, the bacteria in the water leech into the rocks and are replaced with minerals such as calcium and magnesium. There are also man-made ways of filtering water. There are three basic types of filter available: • Absorbent types, which use materials such as carbon to pick up impurities. • Microfiltration systems, which run water through filters with tiny pores to catch and eliminate contaminants (the filter may be made of any of a number of different materials).

You are missing out on all the minerals it could have. This is why it's a great idea to eat Brazil nuts from time to time, because Brazil nuts are the only commonly available nut that's grown wild in naturally mineralized soils. Brazil nuts are mostly wild crafted, meaning that they are collected out in nature from wild plants, and they are very high in selenium. In fact, just eating three Brazil nuts a day gives you the minimum daily requirement for selenium. Of course, selenium is a very important mineral for preventing Alzheimer's disease, preventing cancer and many other disorders.
Back at the dawn of human civilization when we lived along the Nile, the river regularly flooded and would bring nutrients and minerals back to the croplands. That is what sustained early human civilization. The dawn of agriculture was dependent on the flooding of a river. Had that river not flooded and that land been farmed over and over again from generation to generation, the civilization there would have died due to malnutrition. It could not have sustained itself. Much the same is happening in the United States today.

Mined from natural salt deposits, these salts contain an array of health-promoting minerals (including trace minerals), far beyond the sodium and chloride found in typical processed salt. Find some sources for sea salt and trace minerals at: http://www.WebSeed.com/Trace_minerals.html. At this point, you're probably getting some ideas about how you can defend yourself against the flu by avoiding many of these stresses. If you could live a stress-free life (which is probably impossible these days), you might never get sick at all.

When you live on the processed food diet, you're hungry all the time because your body says, "Keep on eating until I get the right minerals." So, you just keep eating and eating until you become obese. No matter what diet you try, you can't get any thinner because your body still isn't getting the minerals it needs. If you really want to lose weight, one of the first things you've got to do is start eating organic fruits and vegetables. You must get away from processed foods. Ideally, you need to start taking supplements with minerals and trace minerals.

Hard water deposits its calcium and other minerals on the outside of these structures, while it is the calcium and magnesium found within these structures that are beneficial to the body. Soft water can be naturally soft or it may be hard water that has been treated to remove the calcium and magnesium. Standard water-softening systems work by using pressure to pass the water through exchange media to exchange "hard" calcium and magnesium ions for "soft" sodium or potassium ions. Most use either sodium chloride or potassium chloride for this purpose.

I also want to mention that this salt is a full-spectrum salt, so instead of just getting sodium and chloride, you're getting a full spectrum of trace minerals and macro minerals, as well. Remember that table salt you might be consuming, or the sodium found in processed foods, is just sodium chloride. You don't get the trace minerals, and it is those trace minerals – those other 90 elements, for example – that you need in order to be a healthy, vibrant human being, and with this kind of salt product, you can get this into your diet very easily, very quickly, and I also think quite affordably.

But the advantage of coral calcium over, say, cave limestone from caves in Missouri, is that the coral calcium also has the spectrum of minerals found in the ocean. In other words, you're getting more than just calcium and you're also getting trace minerals. Unfortunately, coral calcium isn't very high in the other macro minerals, such as magnesium and zinc, but it is high in trace minerals. So, it's a great source of what I call inorganic calcium. You can also go the more expensive route and buy chelated calcium supplements from a variety of vitamin manufacturers like Twin Lab.

And when it comes to factory foods, nearly all of the food products on grocery store shelves is completely devoid of all but a few minerals. Did you know that white flour has 90 percent less mineral content than whole grain wheat? You lose almost 100 percent of minerals like magnesium, zinc and calcium when you process these grains. When you live on the processed food diet, you're hungry all the time because your body says, "Keep on eating until I get the right minerals." So, you just keep eating and eating until you become obese.

The minerals are Kreb's cycle minerals -- the transporters that the body recognizes, and this particular vitamin has no excipients whatsoever. Nothing. The powder is put into a veggie cap. That is it. This is made for sensitive people. We just came out with this. We had been having it custom formulated in small quantities in the pharmacy for years because we did not think we could find anyone who would manufacture a product with no excipients whatsoever. It is now available on our website. It is extremely pure. I actually designed it 15 years ago for my wife, when she was chemically sensitive.

It has absorbed not only the macro minerals like calcium and magnesium, but also the trace minerals from the ocean waters. When you consume spirulina, you are automatically getting these minerals in a highly bio-available form. Other good sources of calcium include green, leafy vegetable like spinach. The darker the vegetable, the more calcium it contains, generally speaking. So, if you want to get a lot of calcium into your diet, you can also consume increasing quantities of these green, leafy vegetables.
