Add 1 cc of sterile water for every 1 cc of calcium gluconate, because the solution is hypertonic. In general, use 1 cc of calcium gluconate for every 2 cc of magnesium chloride. However, for anxiety or migraines, increase the ratio to 1:1. Draw up all nutrients into one syringe and inject slowly over five to fifteen minutes, through a 25-gauge butterfly needle.
This solution is hypertonic and occasionally causes pain at the site of injection. This can be avoided by diluting the injection by 25% to 50% with sterile water (beyond the dilution of calcium gluconate described above). |

Nail bed infection
Known medically as paronychia, this infection is usually caused by a fungus, notably Candida albicans. Less commonly, bacteria are the culprits. In either case it is a painful infection, which may persist unless it is aggressively treated. It is manifested by swelling around the nail bed, redness, and extreme pain.

Barbara Wilson, R.N., who has worked with the Peace Corps in various locations in the South Pacific and is a frequent contributor to Folk Medicine Journal, related this episode to me awhile back.

Every so often I get to Phoenix, Arizona, where I generally do a Saturday morning live talk show with my friend and colleague, Dr. Bob Martin on radio station KFYI-AM. Afterwards, a mutual friend of ours, Irvin "Herb" Markovitz has me over to his Cinema Park Super Health Foods store for a couple of hours to do book autographs and answer customers' health questions.
The last time such an event took place, over 200 people lined up outside to buy my books and get a chance to visit with me. |

There are several things which make apple juice one of the most beneficial things for even the worst kind of constipation. First there is the high pectin content. Pectin is a water-soluble substance in many fruits and vegetables that yields a gel from which jellies are made. It is a natural cell scrubber derived chiefly from plant cell walls and fruit such as apples and different kinds of citrus. One apple yields about two grams of pectin. When it combines with certain mineral salts in an apple, they form an insoluble salt that has strong laxative properties. |

When nature combines these elements in exact proportions, the result is a living, breathing, functioning human being who, once crafted out of these materials, will continue to regenerate for the rest of his or her life. In order for this to occur, however, it is essential that we constantly receive these same elements, which continue to be precisely combined so that each of us can realize his or her full potential emotionally and physically.

Strangely, EPA's current informational pamphlet "Is Your Drinking Water Safe?" claims that "radioactivity is the only contaminant for which standards have been set that has been shown to cause cancer."
Concerns have been expressed about the finding of high levels of the carcinogenic chloroform in drinking water treated by chlorine. Chloroform and much higher levels of other related (trihalomethane) compounds, most of which are toxicologically active though still unidentified, are produced following chlorination of water heavily contaminated with organic pollutants . |

GOUT SNEAKS UP on its victims quietly. Many patients are first stricken in the middle of the night with an aching, throbbing, and exquisitely painful big toe. Usually the afflicted joint is swollen, red, and tender and, if the attack continues, the victim can develop fever and chills. |
| Another dietary factor that's connected with the development of atherosclerosis is caffeine. People who drink large amounts of caffeine—six cups a day or more—are far more prone to elevated cholesterol. This connection doesn't hold for tea drinkers. I tell my patients to limit themselves to one cup of coffee a day and eliminate caffeinated sodas entirely.
It's also important to increase the fresh fruits and vegetables you consume daily. Just a few simple additions to your diet can make a significant overall change. |

IN ADDITION: Vanadium is another natural element that has worked for many diabetic patients. It's available in buffered form and it has insulin-like properties, increasing the uptake of glucose and protein by the muscles and liver. The recommended dosage is 2 mg. three times a day, to be taken with meals. Do not take more, as it can be toxic in large doses. |

When I race— and I am an American Class racewalker, holding American records in indoors, outdoors, and all distances from the 1 mile to the 40 k—and I take the L-carnitine, I find I have a greater capacity for breathing. I am not as fatigued, and my recovery is much quicker. |

Coenzyme Q|0
Coenzyme Q is a powerful antioxidant (p. 267) that protects the body from free radicals.1 Coenzyme Q is also called ubiquinone, a name that signifies its ubiquitous (widespread) distribution in the human body. As a coenzyme, this nutrient aids metabolic reactions, such as the complex process of transforming food into ATP, the energy on which the body runs.
Coenzyme Q supplementation has been investigated as a way to improve physical endurance because of its effect on energy production. However, most research shows that coenzyme Q does not improve athletic performance (p. 20). |
| Potassium (p. 323) is an unusual case, as adequate amounts of potassium cannot by law be sold in nonprescription products. Thus potassium, when included in an MVM formula, represents only a trivial amount.
MVMs that contain iron should be taken only by people who are known to be iron deficient or have a history of frequent past iron deficiencies. Iron deficiency is not uncommon among many groups of people, including the following:
• Some groups of vegetarians
• People with parasitic infections (p. 137)
• Premenopausal women
• Marathon runners (p. 20)
• People with Crohn's disease (p. |
