Sometimes people say, well, if a vegan diet is a healthful one, and if it's in keeping with our natural relationship to the Earth, how come vitamin b-12, which is necessary for health, is only found in animal products? It's a good question, and the answer is simple.
Animal products have vitamin b-12 because animals ingest plants and/or drink water that are carrying the microorganisms that produce the vitamin. vitamin b-12 is constantly being produced throughout the environment by bacteria. |

Gerry: Well, spirulina is certainly a good source of protein, it contains all the essential amino acids, it's also a very good source of vitamin b-12, something that is difficult for vegetarians to get from other sources. And certainly as with everyone, it's a great source of antioxidant carotenoid.
Mike: So, just back to that vitamin b-12, to let people know, that's more traditionally derived from animal proteins.
Gerry: That's correct.
Mike: And as a complete protein, spirulina beats beans or rice or other protein sources that don't have all the amino acids.
Gerry: That's correct. |

Vegetarians especially tend to miss out on getting enough vitamin b-12 because that particular vitamin is not commonly available from the plant kingdom. So by eating spirulina, you can avoid any nutritional deficiencies in the B-vitamin area.
Spirulina also provides some outstanding macrominerals, such as calcium and magnesium, and at the same time provides important trace minerals. This is because spirulina is harvested from ocean waters, so the microalgae is absorbing and assimilating the minerals naturally found in the ocean into its own structure. |

All patients presenting with a combination of anxiety, depression, and/or fatigue should have their serum levels measured before treatment is instituted. Once vitamin b-12 is administered regularly, serum levels should be increased to an amount greater than or equal to 1000 pg/ml in order for patients to experience significant relief of their anxiety symptoms. |

Homocysteine is converted back into methionine, which needs folic acid and vitamin b-12, and can even be catabolized to cysteine. The amino acid cysteine is essential for the synthesis of glutathione, one of the most important natural antioxidants. High bloods levels of homocysteine are correlated with disease and with low folic acid blood levels. Homocysteine is needed for the synthesis of adenine and thymine.
About one quarter of the population is low in folic acid, which may be an underestimate since it is based upon RDA standards. |

The Orotic molecule is mainly absorbed in the mesenchymal connective tissue and by bradytrophic tissues in cartilage, vessel walls, the Brain Blood Barrier, for the nerves, Brain activity; and bone matrix: and is less absorbed in liver epithelial glands, ormucous cells. Orotic acid is needed for thepentose-pathway ribose coupling metabolism of Cartilage and the anti-aging organs. They may transport nutrients to their area of greatest need. |

Dr Simpson has found that many chronic conditions, such as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and multiple sclerosis (MS), benefited from optimal doses of vitamin b-12. Patients with MS had a large proportion of their erythrocytes (red blood cells or RBCs) that were too large and could not traverse the capillaries. Thus, much of the body tissues would be deficient in oxygen. He found that injections of hydroxocobalamine in large doses was very effective in treating these conditions. He also used essential fatty acids (EFAs)to make the RBC membrane more elastic. |

The patient was given the Hoffer-Osmond Diagnostic (HOD) test to determine the severity of his schizoaffective disorder. The patient's HOD test was received and scored on December 17, 2004. For a patient with a pre-established diagnosis, the HOD test can also be used to evaluate the severity of mental disturbances and assess a patient's response to treatment. In this patient's case, his total score did indicate that he was symptomatic. |

Inositol
Inositol is one of the B complex vitamins, a precursor of the phos-phatidylinositol cycle. It plays a role in the metabolism of cholinergic, noradrenergic, and serotoninergic systems. These systems are considered most important in regulating mood and other disorders of the brain.

| Some critics of high dose vitamin C administration have alleged that the substance causes kidney stones through the increased excretion of oxalate: interference with vitamin b-12 metabolism; rebound scurvy upon sudden cessation of therapy; excessive iron absorption and a mutagenic effect.... An extensive and very thorough analysis of the data during the past years has disproved all the serious allegations. Some patients, particularly in the early days of high-dose administration, do experience a laxative effect. Even this mild and harmless adverse effect is not found consistently. |

The baby should be breastfed unless there are very powerful reasons why this cannot be done. Baby food should be free of added sugar and other additives. Allergies must be investigated if the baby has many colds, earaches, and so on. Dairy products are the most common food allergies in children. Each child should be given supplemental vitamin C since no one can make any and many will need to supplement their diet with B-complex vitamins as well. |

A prolonged absence of vitamin b-12 may cause pernicious anemia. This is a type of anemia that may cause weakness, lethargy, and damage to the nervous system. One of my elderly angina patients had a vitamin b-12 absorption problem, and almost underwent coronary artery bypass surgery because of severe coronary disease. We discovered, however, that his angina could have been provoked by a low blood count as a result of B-12 deficiency. After he received B-12 injections, he felt considerably better and had fewer angina symptoms. |

B-12 (5000 meg).
The patient returned for another appointment on April 20, 2005. He had seen a new psychiatrist, who recommended that the patient complete a series of cognitive behavior therapy for his social anxiety disorder. The patient was also attending a weekly group for patients with social anxiety disorder. The psychiatrist prescribed 20 mg of citalopram and took him off the olanzapine. He was sleeping less since discontinuing the olanzapine. The psychiatrist also instructed the patient to continue with risperidone (4 mg at bedtime) and bupropion hydrochloride (150 mg daily). |

B-12 (5000 meg) was given to the patient.
The patient had one more follow-up on June 27, 2005. He had reduced the risperidone to 2 mg daily on his own. He also discontinued the citalopram and bupropion hydrochloride. He did not feel worse than before and, in fact, indicated that he was more alert and required less sleep. He did not complain of any withdrawal symptoms from discontinuing the medications. His social anxiety seemed much improved. He was able to cover for his father as a courier and interact with people. This would not have been possible just a few months previously. |
